As part of the lead-up to Sonic X Shadow Generations, a short comic about the Chao has arrived. On Twitter, the official Sonic the Hedgehog account posted the comic in full, and revealed the principal creators behind it. You can see the tweet and read the full comic here.

The story of the Sonic X Shadow Generations X Chao comic, a Shadow Chao and a Sonic Chao crossing space and time to try and rescue lost Chao, was written by Ian Flynn, one of the lead writers for the Sonic the Hedgehog IDW comics, Sonic Frontiers, and Sonic X Shadow Generations. The line art is done by illustrator Misa Shion, and the panels are colored by Min Ho Kim, cover and interior artist for the IDW Sonic comics and lead character designer for The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.

This comic is part of a number of projects to celebrate the release of Sonic X Shadow Generations. Earlier in 2024, a Shadow the Hedgehog-centric short series, Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings, was released on the official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube account. In addition, a Sonic the Hedgehog crossover comic with DC Comics' superheroes was announced, with Shadow as Batman and Sonic as The Flash.

Sonic X Shadow Generations releases on October 25, 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X. The Sonic X Shadow Generations X Chao comic is free to read on the Sonic the Hedgehog twitter account.

Poncle announced a second Vampire Survivors crossover with Konami, this time being the Ode to Castlevania DLC. It will debut on Halloween 2024, adding characters and the largest map so far. It will be on the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices for $3.99 on October 31, 2024.

As this is a Castlevania add-on with no vampires, it means other iconic characters from the series will be playable instead. Poncle confirmed over 20 will be available. It noted that many of them will be from the Belmont and Belnades families.

Here’s the animated announcement trailer, which showed many of the characters we’ll get to use when the add-on appears. It also hints at Soma Cruz and Alucard’s inclusions. 

As a reminder, the Vampire Survivors Konami crossover prior to the Castlevania DLC involved Contra. Characters and stages from that game showed up in the Operation Guns add-on.

Vampire Survivors is available for the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices, and its Ode to Castlevania DLC launches on October 31, 2024.

Horror games are so iconic. Few games immerse the player in an evocative and memorable world as well as horror titles. Famous, classic Japanese horror series like Resident Evil and Silent Hill keep putting out games. In fact, the recent release of Silent Hill 2 shows there is plenty of room for more horror remakes. This are our picks for the classic horror games that need a sequel or remake next.

Siliconera Speaks Up: Horror Games That Need a Remake or Sequel

I'm kind of loathe to think of Siren: Blood Curse as a remake of the original game since it's SO different in terms of…well, everything. It's more a reimagination, really. While a much more faithful remake of Siren would be nice, I'm one of those people who believe that if you're going to play it, you should play the original, horrible, janky version and get that true frustrating experience. Siren 2, on the other hand, seemed to have genuinely wanted to provide some quality-of-life upgrades. As such, it would be nice to see a proper remake of that one. Heck, a Siren 3 that's similar to the first two in terms of gameplay and writing would be great too. It might be difficult though, since the main creative team for Siren seem to be at Bokeh Game Studio now and I don't know who even has the rights to the IP anymore. -- Stephanie (2/2)

I have to agree with Stephanie. Siren should come back. It's such a memorable story, and the gameplay was so unusual and different. It genuinely felt desperate and horrifying when you knew the Shibito were everywhere, you were outnumbered, and it would be so easy to panic and slip up. -- Jenni

I’m a wimp when it comes to horror games so I mostly stick to visual novels. Though not outright horror games, I keep hoping and praying for new games in the Zero Escape and Danganronpa series. They both have light spooky elements, especially 999 with the “knocking” part that actually made me jump when I first played it. Both series made me fall in love with the visual novel genre and I just need more of both. This is particularly painful for Zero Escape since I will stand by that Zero Time Dilemma’s most horrifying part was its terribly unfinished ending that needs a sequel someday. -- Cody

Bandai Namco announced during the 2024 New York Comic Con Dragon Ball Daima anime panel that DLC involving its characters and story will be in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. In each case, no exact dates were set for the add-ons, but there are trailers for each one showing them off. 

In the case of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Goku (Mini) is already part of the cast as the first DLC. As such, the additional Dragon Ball Daima add-ons will be Vegeta (Mini) and Glorio. Those will appear after Gamma 1 and Gamma 2.

In the case of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, the Dragon Ball Daima DLC comes up during Future Saga Chapter 2. We already know that pack would involve Belmod, Champa, and Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku. Goku (Mini) will also be playable, and he’ll be a part of a free trial.

Finally, the Dragon Ball Daima related addition to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be Adventure Through the Demon Realm Part 1 DLC. Once again, this means we’ll spend time with Goku (Mini). It also means visiting the Demon Realm.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 appears on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC. Dragon Ball Daima is streaming on Crunchyroll, and the English dub will debut in US and Canadian theaters on November 10-12, 2024.

During the October 2024 Xbox Partner Preview showcase, Sega announced a new Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii release date and shared a new trailer. The game will now launch on February 21, 2024, rather than February 28, 2024. 

No explanation was announced for the new Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii release date. The end of the video just abruptly bumped the date up by one week. 

The rest of the video was dedicated to showing what it’s like to customize Goro Majima’s pirate ship and visit Madlantis. People can choose different options for the ship’s hull, figurehead, sails, and trimming. Once at Madlantis, which is a hub for in the region, people can go to the Pirates’ Coliseum. There is a Tournament of Captains fight, Madlantis Mania, a Quick Clash battle, and Swashbuckler Showdown. Taiga Saejima also makes a cameo appearance in the new trailer too.

The new Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii release date is February 21, 2024. It will come out for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam. Pre-ordering the game will add Ichiban and Nancy to the crew, as well as grant you Ichiban’s two outfits to wear.

Another one of the Good Smile Company announcements from New York Comic Con 2024 involves a The Binding of Isaac figure that is a Nendoroid of the main character. It is the furthest along of all of the company’s announcements at the event, as a painted prototype appeared and there are multiple photos showing the extra parts included with it.

The multiple photos tied to a gif released alongside the reveal covered many of the parts Isaac will include. His face plates always show him crying, and it seems he will have ones that feature both his eyes open and closed. He’ll come with a standard body, as well as an additional one of him curled up in a fetal position on the floor. You can arm him with Mom’s Knife, which was a passive in the original game. He also comes with a Dead Cat passive item, which can be displayed alongside him.

While there’s no pre-order open yet, we should see that happen soon. Not only did the painted prototype appear at NYCC 2024, but there are multiple photos of its accessories and extra parts.

Many of the other NYCC 2024 Good Smile Company reveals involved games. There will be a new World of Warcraft Nendoroid and Diablo 4 Pop Up Parade figure coming from the company.  

The Binding of Isaac original game is available on PCs. The remake showed up on the 3DS, PS4, PS5, Switch, Vita, Wii U, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices. There’s no release window for The Binding of Isaac Nendoroid yet.

Among the Good Smile Company New York Comic Con 2024 reveals was a teaser for the Diablo 4 Lilith Pop Up Parade L figure. It’s early in development, so it seems the social media reveal didn’t include any concept art. Instead, the official art of the character showed up in the announcement. 

Lilith is a character who has been a part of the Diablo series since the second game, though she features most prominently in Diablo 4. In that installment, she appears as the primary antagonist.

Good Smile Company only released one Diablo series figure prior to this, and it was a Demon Hunter. That was based on the class’ Diablo 3 appearance. However, that class did also appear in Diablo Immortal. That figure launched in 2024 and is widely available.

As a reminder, the L size versions of Pop Up Parade figures are typically quite a bit taller than the standard ones. Normal ones are under seven inches tall. An “L” variant could be nine inches or taller.

Diablo 4 and its Vessel of Hatred expansion are available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and there’s no release window yet for the Lilith Pop Up Parade figure.

I really loved Silent Hill 3, but it was more because of the communal experience. I went through that entry with three close friends in college. So when we'd play, we'd all do so together. It meant we really got to savor the experience, enjoy the lore and deal with the scares together as a whole. -- Jenni

I'm going to expose myself as a casual Silent Hill fan. I’ll say that the only Silent Hill game I ever played to completion was Silent Hill 2. My only other one was, yes, Silent Hill: Origins, but I don't remember anything outside of the protagonist's hammerspace pockets. To be honest, I don't find the Silent Hill games that scary. The combat is available as an action, but I really like the overarching lore of the franchise. The self-contained narrative of Silent Hill 2, as well as its focus on the personal and psychological issues of its characters, are very interesting to me from a story standpoint. As a game, yeah, it can be frustrating. But as an experience, well, there's a reason that a lot of people consider Silent Hill 2 to be one of the finest examples of video games as art. -- Stephanie

Silent Hill 2 and 3 are undoubtedly up there as likely the best in the series. However, I have a soft spot for Silent Hill: Origins. I’ve always been a scaredy cat so this is probably the first horror game I played to completion. The graphics, at the time, impressed me for a handheld title. In addition, the gameplay felt nearly on the level of a home console experience. Being able to play on a smaller screen helped me to not be too afraid and I have fond memories of sneaking off to the school library to play it. Not to mention the soundtrack from Akira Yamaoka is stellar. It kickstarted my love for this series, which is a rarity in the genre. -- Cody

Good Smile Company announced a new model kit of Thanatos from Persona 3 Reload. The new model kit is part of the Plamatea series of articulated plastic models and belongs to the Good Mecha Smile brand.

As of right now, Good Smile Company has only shown an unpainted grey prototype of the Persona 3 Reload plastic model of the Persona Thanatos. There is no announced release date nor window, and the company hasn’t given a price range either. The plastic model is holding the Persona’s signature blade and is seen supported by a transparent base.

The Persona also includes a series of thin metallic chains that connect the various coffins floating over the persona, which also seem to be supported by thin plastic parts. Additionally, another photo of the prototype was shown with the coffins and coat parts being fully articulable. New information about the plastic model will appear in the future.

Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is in development from Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr Games. This collection of three more Tomb Raider games will release on February 14, 2025.

Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered will contain remasters of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. The Last Revelation and Chronicles were the final two games in the series released for PS1, while The Angel of Darkness was the first PS2 game and the final game developed by the original team at Core Design. The remaster will feature a visual overhaul for both PS1 games, although the original visuals will be available at the touch of a button. The Angel of Darkness appears to exclusively use upscaled versions of the original textures, as no split-screen comparison was shown off for that game in the announcement trailer.

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation was Lara Croft’s most expansive adventure at the time, taking her across Egypt and expanding out the level structure. Tomb Raider: Chronicles was an anthology game which saw Lara taking part in four smaller adventures in Rome, Russia, Ireland and New York. Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness is a moody mystery where Lara is accused of killing her mentor and is now investigating secrets within Paris and Prague. This game was also notorious for being unfinished on its original launch. It’s unclear if the game’s various bugs and control issues will be rectified for the remaster.

This latest remastered collection follows on from a previous collection, which contained the first three Tomb Raider games. The new collection will be launching exactly one year after the first, on February 14, 2025. This is a notable date for Tomb Raider fans, as it’s Lara Croft’s canonical birthday. The announcement of the new remaster comes shortly after the release of the Netflix Tomb Raider adaptation, starring Hayley Atwell as Lara Croft.

Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered will release for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch on February 14, 2025.

Atlus has announced via its Japanese official website and Studio Zero's X account that it has sold over 1 million units of Metaphor: ReFantazio worldwide. This number combines the physical copies shipped with the digital sales across all of the game's platforms—Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

The company made this announcement right on the launch day for the game, which fell on October 11, 2024. That means it also factored in digital pre-orders for Metaphor: ReFantazio in addition to the physical shipments to reach the 1 million sales milestone that quickly.

A new illustration featuring Gallica has also appeared to celebrate the milestone. The Japanese text in the image reads "1 million units surpassed worldwide! Thank you!!"

Atlus also boasted the Metacritic average scores for Metaphor: ReFantazio, which went above 90 on multiple platforms as of October 11, 2024. It recorded 93 points for the PlayStation 5 release, 92 points for the Xbox versions, and 91 points for the PC version available via Steam and Microsoft Store.

In addition, Atlus also reminded people that Metaphor: ReFantazio had received back-to-back Future Division awards from the Japan Game Awards held during the 2023 and 2024 Tokyo Game Show. These awards particularly signified enormous anticipation from the Japanese public, as public votes from the event's first three days determined the award winners.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is now available worldwide on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.

All the games in Tetris Forever have been revealed by the collection’s developer, Digital Eclipse. The fifteen games in the collection feature multiple variations of Tetris, including a recreation of the original version created by Alexey Pajitnov on a Soviet Electronika 60 computer.

In addition, a new game called Tetris Time Warp is also included. This game was developed by Digital Eclipse themselves, and will feature the ability to switch between different eras of Tetris on the fly.

Almost all of the Tetris games in Tetris Forever were originally published by Bullet-Proof Software. Other versions from other publishers are absent, including the iconic 1989 Game Boy game published by Nintendo. This version of the game is available through the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Tetris Forever was revealed earlier this year during the August 2024 Nintendo Partner Direct. It’s part of Digital Eclipse’s Gold Master Series, which are game collections that set out to preserve the history of the games they’re representing. As such, the collection also includes documentary footage and archival materials representing the history of Tetris. Previous Digital Eclipse collections in this style have included The Making of Karateka, Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story and Atari 50.

Tetris Forever will release sometime in 2024 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

One of the signature parts of Stardew Valley is picking the farm type you want to start out with. Since this is a huge decision, it can affect how you feel about your farm. This mod adds the Haunted Woods Farm option. As you might expect, your farm is in the middle of some spooky woods that will be unnerving no matter the season.

It also has some quality-of-life features like boundaries for NPCs like animals so you don’t lose them, which is a nice touch. My favorite part, though, is how the Haunted Woods Farm changes in appearance throughout the four seasons.

Monster Invasion

Some might say that this farming sim is a bit too peaceful at times, especially since most of the combat happens in the mines. If that is you, this is the mod for you. It makes this game much more like Minecraft and other survival games in which nighttime is far deadlier. Monsters will invade all across the world once night falls. This can lead to some intense moments as you fend off slimes, ghosts, and more as you try to make it back home in time.

Ghost Town

The villagers in this game are some of the best parts of the entire experience. So, what if they were all dead? Yes, this mod turns everyone into a ghost, except they don’t know they are one. If you explore enough, you will even find their corpses, which will clue you in to how they met their demise.

This is by far the most sinister and genuinely scariest mod I’ve experienced for the game, and it adds such a neat lore layer to the experience. Just beware there is some heavy content handled in this mod, which may be triggering.

Now that October is here, games are kicking off events tied to the season, and Sega announced the PSO2 New Genesis Halloween event with decorations, activities, and costumes are now live. Those started on October 9, 2024, and it seems many of them are live until November 5, 2024. 

To start, there will be Central City decorations, characters in costumes, and events. If you go to that hub, you’ll see spooky decorations set up throughout the month. Mags will also be pumpkin-orange. If you visit Xiemi to get things from the Seasonal Points Exchange Shop, you’ll see her in a gothic gown for the occasion. The Haunted Domain II Urgent Quest is live, and all Urgent Quests can now be completed twice as a “treat.”

There are also new items to pick up tied to the Halloween season in PSO2 New Genesis. The AC Shop is selling C/Grand Dread Keeper II materials. The Reward Box lets you trade medals for seasonal items. Beating 50 enemies in Enemy Supression gets you a Halloween Reward Box. Two elements of the seasonal event are tied to character appearances. Using the Salon is free at the moment. There is also a Halloween '24 Special Scratch gacha available now, and Monster Masquerade '24 with gothic costumes and the Jack-o’-Lantern pumpkin seat starts on October 16, 2024.
